Fantastic show by #Sigrid at #The1865 this evening. Such a beautiful clear voice and hearing all those tracks in a more acoustic format was an absolute joy.

A photograph of a band performing on stage. The lighting has toned the image with warm, tobacco tones. At centre is a singer, standing at the front of the stage. His right hand (holding his microphone) is outstretched and pointing out to the audience. His left hand is raised behind him and holding, by the neck, his twelve-stringed acoustic guitar. He is smartly dressed, in a pale suit and white shirt, with an dark, untied bow tie dangling from his collars. Members of the audience are visible in front of him, their heads glowing in the light from the stage. One audience member holds their drink aloft in both hands, as if offering it in sacrifice. Behind the singer is a drummer, almost lost in the darkness at the back of the stage. Above him, looking down on him is the image of a smartly dressed man, projected on the large screen at the back of the stage. The band performing is Absolute Bowie, at The 1865 in Southampton, UK. They are a David Bowie tribute band. The image projected above them is, of course, of David Bowie. Some notes for photographers: Manual; 1/250s, f/4, ISO 12,800, ev +1.3; 127mm (equivalent to 254mm on 35mm film). Olympus OM1 (mk 1); m43 sensor. Panasonic Leica 50-250mm f/2.8-4.0. The backlighting has reduced the contrast of the image captured. I left that, for the atmosphere. Similarly, I kept the warm tones of the capture, for the same reason and because they were consistent with the colours of the singer.

Bex Recs: The 1865

Frontperson Honeychild Coleman - @honeychildcoleman.bsky.social - is a legendary punk-rock activist rebel. Her band, The 1865, is full of noisy guitar riffs, driving drums, and f*ck-the-system lyrics. 🤘

The mancub and I went to Southampton’s #The1865 on Monday to watch the abso-fucking-lutely mental and brilliant #Sprints. It was a cracking gig & makes me think of all the poor people who say music now isn’t as good as the ___’s (insert random decade here).

Comedy night at The 1865 in Southampton. Red stage lighting is a gift and a curse, but lean into it and you get punchy, atmospheric live shots. #liveeventphotography #southampton #the1865

"This old-school attitude of "put on a great show and support new talent," is the perfect fuel for the community atmosphere in The 1865 tonight."

By Chris Taylor. Heavy metal is clearly alive and well in Southampton. I haven’t been to a sold out gig at 1865 for a while, so it’s a bit of a shock to the system to walk in at 7.15pm to an already-p...
