A screenshot of an internal facility email dated November 1, 2010, from Suzie M., Director of Human Resources, to all facility staff. The subject reads “Unauthorized Candy Distribution – Immediate Action Required” and is marked high priority. Suzie reprimands staff for distributing Halloween candy to resident children, warning that unapproved ingredients could compromise testing results. She orders all remaining candy confiscated, consumed candy documented, and responsible employees to submit written explanations. Several phrases are emphasized in bold red text, including “Who authorized this?” and “DOES NOT.” The email concludes by reminding staff that the facility conducts controlled research, not daycare, and that holidays do not override established protocols.

A Halloween scene drawn in colorful, uneven crayon strokes on worn, creased paper. Three smiling children in ordinary clothes receive small gray candy packets labeled DEP from a smiling woman wearing a white laboratory coat. A bowl of additional candy sits on a table beside a large jack-o’-lantern. Bats, stars, a crescent moon, and Halloween decorations fill the background. A speech bubble above the children has been left blank. The cheerful drawing contrasts with the institutional setting, including a barred window behind the woman.
