The likely reelection of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, in spite of his government's suppressing the will of over 100k residents (>> # who voted for the mayor) who signed petition to put #CopCity on ballot is one that I'm afraid speaks to power of #TheAtlantaWay & corporate-led regime that runs city.
Atlanta Mayor @andreforatlanta.com really posted a "Cop City" video today bragging about how he lied to the public (go read my Atlanta Press Club Award-winning reporting for @thexylom.com) and tore up South River Forest for a $110 million parking lot with horses attached to it.

From the beginning, Atlanta DSA has been the most consistent (organizational) voice against the Mayor's proposal to extend the tax increment financing districts (TADs). Others have been joining in the growing criticism.

The video features (some of) the cast of the greatest hits of #TheAtlantaWay.
Who’s really back the TAD extensions? 🤔

Corporate interests have been flooding public comment to support the TADs.They win when our tax dollars go towards developer handouts instead of city services. We deserve a city government that funds services, not slush funds!

3/3... & this group worked to oppose putting #CopCity on the ballot, including seeking the names of everyone who signed petition.

Anyway, I responded as you can see. But sometimes just seeing who is behind something can be answer enough. #TheAtlantaWay

In Atlanta, mayor-backed candidate to head city council, Marci Overstreet beats Rohit Malhotra. A win for #TheAtlantaWay. (Though can't help but notice Malhotra did not publicly oppose massive TAD/TIF extension.)

OTOH, Dem Socialist @kelseabondatl.bsky.social easily wins a seat on City Council.

Siri, show me an “oversight” committee over a $ multibillion 30-year TAD/TIF extension that is dominated by key participants in #TheAtlantaWay.

Not one of these orgs has been a critic of Atlanta development policies. Only 2 are even neighborhood orgs & one of those was created by large corp’s. 1/2

3/3 ...opposing transit on the Beltline. Former Mayor Shirley Franklin is "of counsel" to Lexicon. Lexicon is a true creature of the #TheAtlantaWay. And its reaping its rewards in city contracts. The Atlanta Way pays! Just not for regular Atlantans.

The irony of Mr. English bringing this up, when he and the Mayor have the political power to end it but don't want to buck #TheAtlantaWay, is rich.

In Atlanta, a dominant majority of City Council voted to apply Republican-favored signature matching to the #CopCity referendum signatures. The 10 members voting “Yes” have basically crossed the Rubicon in terms of selling their souls to maintain their status with the Mayor and #TheAtlantaWay

Buses used it when the service first opened. MARTA has not released details, because its better to admit ignorance than stupidity. #TheAtlantaWay

"Alex Wan and several other council members called the way the administration went about addressing them 'troubling.' 'All of a sudden there’s a special procurement...That’s when things started smelling funny'"

Glad #TheAtlantaWay faltered this time.
Atlanta City Council backs jail diversion program’s contract extension

Based on the Presentation to Council, this is Courtney English’s vision for Atlanta. A power-wield Chief of staff that Atlanta voters rejected twice. But he thinks NRI will lead to him as Mayor. #theatlantaway

Having lived in Atlanta for most of 13 years, this is one of the #1 places I would expect this to be implemented.

They’ll also decide whether to move forward with a $10M tax break and bond approval for Forge Atlanta — a large development proposal backed by Webstar Technology Group, a penny stock that’s previously faced SEC regulatory issues.

I’m sure that APD presence heavier than usual in southwest Atlanta has ZERO to do with the fact that today is the first day of early voting.
