Andrew just made a proposition to his best friend, Aaron. Aaron doesn't know how to handle this request.

#TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
“Aaron? Are you awake?” His voice gently wakes me up, I look over from my sleeping position on my back, he is looking at me as he is propped up on an elbow. He looks like he just had a ‘come to Jesus moment’. “Kind of, what time is it?” “It’s three in the morning. I had an idea, but before you answer … hear me out, completely. No interjecting with your thoughts half way through.” He gives me this look he’s been giving me since we were kids, the look like I am about to argue with him, but he knows me pretty well. I roll my eyes but sit up, “Fine. I will shut my big fucking mouth until you’re done. But, you know I hate when you start off a conversation like that.” He sits up as well, “Yeah yeah. You know what you do, don’t make me say it out loud.” He turns to look at me, sitting crossed-legged on the bed. “What if, instead of trying to cancel this honeymoon and shit… you come with me instead?” My eyes are now fully open as I stare at him, trying to process what exactly was happening, what he was asking. I sat there for a few minutes, my brain trying to figure out the proper thing to say without sounding like a crazy person.

Daelan and Daxton are having a conversation about their life choices, specifically about children. Daelan is being a (loveable) shithead.

#TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
“You don’t strike me as the ‘have kids’ kind of guy. Or maybe I am mistaken.” His eyes widen as he starting stumbling on his words , “Sorry, that sounded awful. I’m not saying you would be a bad dad or anything and if you want kids, that’s super cool. You just never seemed like the type to want kids. But, I guess that would have changed in the last six years…” He is rambling and I find myself with a small smile on my face despite myself. “Nah, you aren’t wrong. Child-Free by choice. I am a pretty good uncle, but I don’t think I want to have little me’s running around and making the same mistakes I made. Mom always said I was a terror in my toddler years, she said when I have kids they will pay me back in spades.” I let out a genuine laugh, which catches me off guard, “I think she is disappointed I decided not to have children, because now I won’t feel the terrible two’s like she did.” He rolls his eyes, “You were a terror even when you were a teenager.” The smile on his face is subtle but I know he is teasing me, “It’s probably a good thing you don’t have children, you would age twenty years in the span of five years.” I reach over and playfully shove him, “Fuck you, Daelan. I was a god damn gem. If I was so bad, why did we spend so much time together?” I give him a knowing look, a sly smile resting on my lips.

Just a cute little scene between these men running through an airport like teenagers. This scene just makes me smile.

#TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
“Race you to the gate.” Before I can even respond, he is already booking it through the airport. I let out a surprised, joyful laugh as I started jogging to catch up with him, “Hey! No fair. You cheated.” I weave through the crowds, slipping in between people and service animals, a stupid grin on my face as I laugh. I trail behind him a bit as we get to our destination gate. I’m panting softly, the stupid, boyish grin not leaving my face. “You didn’t win fair and square, asshole.” He lets out this breathless laugh, a smile lighting up his whole face, “You were the one in track and field, what happened to your record-breaking speed, Daxton? Old age catching up with you?” “Old age!?” I act mock offended. “I’ll have you know I haven’t even reached my prime yet.” I playfully nudge him as he walks to the counter, handing the gate attendant his boarding pass. I follow suit before heading into the plane with him. We find our seats, business-class again, and sit down. “Okay, you said you also brought Maximum Overdrive, don’t think I forgot, we are definitely watching that.”

Noble and Nyx have started their journey in ending the existence of the other Originals who want to enslave the human race. The first one they target is Nyx's sister, Nikita.

#TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
Nikita growled, looking over at Noble. “Why does the human male smell like you, Nyx? What have you done?” Her claws protracted out of her hand a whole foot. She slammed her hand against the metal door, leaving a pretty substantial dent. “Did you bond with him?” I stepped in front of Noble, growling right back at her, a fierce need to protect him surging throughout every vein in my body. “That is none of your business, Nikita. I am not here to discuss my life with you.” Her laugh echoed against the walls of the facility, “Of course not, brother. You never had much interest in having the familiar bond the rest of us had.” As she moved forward, her eyes started glowing a deep red. “I suppose I can pay you back for when you killed Estevon. I felt that pain for years.” My own claws protracted as I watched her carefully, “He was a menace to our kind, nothing more. You knew I couldn’t let him live after what he did to that monastery.” Nikita shrieked, lunging forward to take a swipe at the both of us.

“Enzo!” I yelled from the bottom of the stairs, trying not to sound too annoyed with the delay. “You look fine, get down here so we can go. We’re going to be late.” Enzo appeared at the top of the stairs wearing the tailored suit we had just purchased. “My my, Enzo, you look absolutely ravishing. I think I am going to be the envy of everyone at this party.” A small sound between a giggle and a groan came out of Enzo’s lips. “Shut up. You say that regardless of what I wear.” “And regardless of what you wear, you are the most gorgerous man in any room. Are you ready to go or do I have to come up there and get you? I cannot promise if I do, we shall leave right away either.” Enzo playfully rolled his eyes as he started down the steps, “I just got dressed and now you want to undress me? Yuri has finally found the source of the scent he picked up weeks ago. Turns out it was another person - who seems to have had a run-in with someone or something.

#TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
I start running, catching up to him as he is trying to crawl down to the river bank, my hand wrapping around his ankles and pulling him back up. He claws at the ground, screaming as I pull him up. “No! Please! Stop!” He lets out a loud but petrified growl, “I didn’t do anything! Leave me alone.” He dangles in the air by his foot, swaying as he tries to get out of my grip. I can smell him now more than ever, this is the scent I was looking for, this was the person I was looking for these last few weeks. He looks hurt, dirty, and hungry. He tries to take a few swipes at me, his claws extended slightly, but he is weak and can’t reach me properly. “You.” I sniff the air around him, the scent plain as day.I look him in the eyes, seeing the fear, but also seeing the exhaustion that has taken him over. I see the rip in his clothing, a large injury on his abdomen. “What happened to you?” He struggles for a few more minutes before giving up, a look of resignation hitting his features, “Just kill me, please. Don’t take me back to them, I will do anything.” His voice sounds so defeated, which causes my chest to tighten in sadness.

#TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
“What are they doing?” I was leaned up against the other side of the window, observing the police talk to the owner of the motel. They had been in there for almost twenty minutes. “We should have left last night. We messed up. How do we fix this?” Kyle’s brows were furrowed as he typed on his laptop, “They were at least a weeks drive away when we got here there is no way that caught up this quick. Do you think the motel manager said something?” I looked over at Kyle, “Probably. Did you see the latest numbers for information on us? It’s up to like, three million or something.” Kyle’s eyes snapped up at me, “You sound impressed? Why are you impressed?” “I don’t know, that seems like a lot of money to catch the three of us.” “Do you think that’s all together or per person?” Kennedy, who had been dead quiet spoke up, “Because if it’s three million a piece, that’s a pretty hefty price tag for our heads. That would be impressive, my mom would be proud.”

Noble was quiet, looking over the plans sitting on the dining room table, the fire crackling behind him as his mouth moved as he read the words. “Do you always move your mouth when you read, hunter?” Noble’s eyes snapped up, an unamused look on his face as he stared at me. “It helps me memorize the words.” “Is it because you’re still so young?” His jaw tightened as his eyes narrowed, “I am 245 years old, vampire. I am not a child.” “And I am 4,505 years old. To me, everyone is a child.” I gave him a cheeky grin as I watched him scoff. “Whatever. You asked me to come here. I looked at Merick, a sullen frown on my face. “His brother is still there. If I have to kill every single Dark Fang alpha in order to bring home my omega mate, I will.” “You already have a mate.” I snapped, “It is one of the same, Merick. Both of them are mine. #TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
It was mostly quiet in the forest, the trees were singing their songs in the wind, rattling as the footsteps of several men crunched the twigs and gravel with each step. The only other sound was that of the man who had the bag over his head, muffled screaming as he was dragged through the forest to the small stream deep inside. “You knew the consequences, Avrick. I had warned you many times, did I not? I have you many chances and yet, here we are, because you decided that skimming money off the top of the protection fees was your ‘god given right’ as you told the informer, wasn’t it?” Avrick could not answer with the gag in his mouth, but he tried, muffled sobs and screams tried to cut through the air, he was trying to get me to see his point of view. When they find your body, Alrick, just remember that I tried to be merciful. I tried to get you to see reason, this is your own doing. With that, Eron took the bag off Alrick’s head, shoving his head into the water of the stream.

Text Message: Daxton: I’m going to a zoo, are you jealous? Text Message: Daelan: A zoo? Really? Text Message: Daxton: I can hear the jealousy through the phone. It’s fine, I’ll take some pictures of the cute arctic foxes that apparently are there. I put my phone away as I see the signs directing me to the zoo. Heading inside, I immediately see the appeal of this place, the amount of adorable animals is outstanding. I was past the wolves and then some elephants. My home town has nothing like this. The “zoo” is about four enclosures of animals they probably just found around the field behind them. Text Message: Daxton: [attached picture of the arctic foxes] Aren’t they adorable? They kind of look like you, if I’m being honest. Text Message: Daelan: Oh my god. Are you usually this cheesy? [attached is a emoji with tongue sticking out] Text Message: Daxton: Excuse me? Kaevan nods in understanding, “How about we do three hour shifts each, that seems fair, right? Lets us get enough sleep to function but not enough that the others are going to feel tired.” He starts chewing on some fries, a happy look on his face. I am about to say something when Kennedy pipes up, “So … are we going to talk about what happened in the car or are the three of us just going to pretend it didn’t happen and everything is usual, normal even.” He sits on the bed, wrapping a blanket around his shoulders as he looks at both of us with an earnest, but slightly guarded look. “Well, I mean, we did admit we were into each other. That’s kind of hard to just forget, isn’t it?” I am sitting on the office chair, Kaevan sitting on one bed cross-legged as he eats from the take-out box, Kennedy sitting on the other bed, just looking at me. “What do you want it to mean?” Kennedy opens his mouth and then shuts it again. I can tell there are two parts of him that are fighting with each other right now. One part of him wants to admit to everything and see where it goes, see if we can make something work between the three of us. The other part is remembering his childhood and his experiences and how he let himself be vulnerable at some point and it got him hurt.

Noble stared at Nyx, trying his best effort to contain himself in the face of a vampire who was over eighteen times his age and could, without even breaking a sweat, destroy him and send him into the abyss of hell. “An Original Vampire? What does that mean? I swished the glass of crimson liquid, it stuck to the sides and Noble immediately knew what it was. “It means I am one of the first. The Father of Vampires. Created by Lucifer himself with the dark magics of Hell.” “And I’m a vampire hunter, trained to kill your kind, one stab from my silver stake and you’ll be dust.” He was challenging the vampire, even if he knew the risks. I let out a small laugh. “Let me see this silver stake.” Noble handed over the stake. He watched, in horror, as I stuck the stack through my chest and into my heart. Yet, there I was, not dust.” “What the... fuck?”

You finish your shower and I’ll start making the hot cocoa. We’ll crawl into my bed and watch it. Hey, we’ll even snuggle if you want.” There is a beat of silence, then I hear him sigh, “Yeah. This is one of my favourite scenes. It is the moment Daxton confesses his feelings for Daelan. He realizes his feelings are not a typical "brotherly love" scenerio.

#TheRomanticTalesSeries #OwnVoice #WritingCommunity
After what seemed like almost a decade of time, I let out a long, soft sigh. I looked down at my tea, it was cooling off while the conversation seemed to be heating up. “You aren’t making this easy.” I say quietly, stiff as a board next to him. “Not making what easy?” He is looking at me and I can tell, without even having to see his eyes, that he has that concerned look on his face. “Not being able to keep these feelings from growing and showing them.” I stay still, my breathing is laboured and I can feel my heartbeat pounding against my chest. I made a confession, I can’t take it back, I might as well just go full in. “I’ve been struggling since the brewery. No, I have been struggling since day one, but now I really understand these feelings now. I chalked it up to brotherly affection, like you were protecting me because you were an only child and maybe you wanted a brother in your life. But ‘brother love is not things like cuddling while I fall asleep, or holding me until I can calm down enough, or noticing these small things that I do. That’s a real kind of affection.” I finally looked over at him, “You’ve been there since I was thirteen, Daelan. Solid, present, dependable.”

I grab a bag of chips and a bottle of Pepsi. “If this is an apology meal, I am going to need more than just the sub, so I’ll get these too.” I give him a small wink as I set them down on the counter. “Your forgiveness costs a sub, a drink, and chips? Man, you are easier than I thought you would be.” He starts ordering his own vegetables, “I was expecting you to make me take you to like Spain or something.” “Spain? Man, that would be a really expensive apology.” He shrugs nonchalantly, “I would have done it in a heartbeat.” I’m caught off guard by the casual mention he would have taken me to Spain to get my forgiveness, my cheeks turning a slight shade of red. My cheeks are turning red, am I embarrassed by the comment? No, it doesn’t feel like embarrassment, it feels like … delight? Why am I delighted at that?

First Class Tickets, Penthouse suite at the hotel, excursions, spa dates, the works. I spent so much time and research finding the perfect getaway for me and my new bride, I didn’t even care that I was spending that much money. Now, it seems like a complete loss.” He looks over at me, defeated look in his eyes, “Maybe they’ll feel bad for me when I call tomorrow and refund at least part of it.” “I bet they will.” I try to reassure him, but I know he is probably going to be out a lot of money and now I feel bad. He isn’t hurting for cash, but he isn’t rich. And now, with Taylor missing in action and eventually leaving him completely, he is going to have a bunch of expenses he wasn’t prepared for. “Listen, Andrew, let’s just chill out tonight. The question is simple. Understandable. I look at him and for a moment, I don’t speak. Finally, a few moments later, I cleared my throat, “Tammy used to say a man who drank anything but black coffee was too feminine for her, so I started drinking it to please her.” I shrug again, suddenly feeling self-conscious, “So, it is just kind of a thing I do.” He is silent for a few moments, just staring ahead.
