Book cover of The Vampire Priest by Jonathan Gleich "Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC. All thoughts and feelings are my own. The first cover for this book was clearly AI, but I decided to look past it because title caught my attention. I do not condone using genAI for book covers and that had already taken this rating down a star, but I wanted to see what the book was like because the plot sounded interesting. This by no means is a unique take of Vampirism, as a lot of books and media look at Vampirism as a Medical condition rather than a supernatural one, however, the idea of a church community coming together rather than banishing out or falling a part is an interesting take that I was curious to see how it played out. 7% in and I'd already been bombarded with repetitive, bland and personality lacking writing, along with 29 em-dashes (I highlighted and counted), and that's only just starting chapter 3. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good em-dash, when done correctly, none of these were needed and none of them were correct. Along with the boring, lifeless writing (and I quote "She found the broom. She put the pie in the fridge. She put the kettle on.") and receptiveness and over use of certain words, this has me believing that not only was the Cover of this book genAI, but so is the text, or at least heavily edited with AI. If I could give this book below 0.5*, I would, but I cannot, so it's getting 1* and a DNF. (I'll be posting my review on pagebound when the book gets added to it.)"
