Reggie warned Ronnie to stop flirting with Derek because, ‘He doesn’t like it. He’s mad enough to get a truck and drive it through our front window… and mum’ll kill us…

Another film that I remember receiving a lot of buzz at the time. Probably because it had New Romantics playing the infamous twins. Bille Whitelaw was great in this but it did rather glamourise gangsters.

Film poster for The Krays. Against a black background, two men in dark suits, white shirts and black ties are shown from the shoulders up. They stand close together, facing forward with serious expressions. The title “THE KRAYS” appears in bold white lettering above them, underlined with a red brushstroke. The image is framed within a dark textured background.

Unfortunately, #TheFallOfTheKrays tried to shoehorn #FrancesShea’s suicide into the film (in real-life it was because of TOO MUCH attention from her husband, but in the film it’s because of TOO LITTLE attention). Only a sensitive film like #PeterMedak’s #TheKrays can properly depict that tragedy. Ⓐ

#TheKrays is a film with very little violence - but the violence it DOES have is upsetting. I refer to when one dude was bawling his eyes out (as a sword was driven through his hand), and when another dude was cowering/wailing when he realized he was about to be killed. Major props to the actors. Ⓐ

Had the feeling I was too critical of the film #TheKrays (especially after I saw the mediocre 2015 movie #Legend). So I re-watched The Krays tonight, and properly loved it - because NOW I recognize that ONE film can never hope to satisfactorily encompass every important aspect of their lives. Ⓐ

In closing, I used to love the film #TheKrays. And I still think it’s really good! But I love it no more. I hate to say it - but the film is more boring than it should’ve been. If the film had been more focused on other aspects of the gangster twins’ lives - there’d never be a dull moment. Ⓐ

The film #TheKrays spends a lot of its time focused on the gangster twins’ family lives - and pays almost no attention to what made them into gangsters. And the twin that in real-life was unstable, homosexual, schizophrenic, and a psychopath - in the film isn’t schizophrenic, and is quite stable. Ⓐ

Re-watched #TheKrays - and I think this is the first time I saw it uncut. I first saw it about thirty years ago, when one of my uncles sent us a VHS recording of it (that originally aired on #PBS, so the film’s brief violence/gore was cut). Though I know #Showcase (later) showed it uncut... Ⓐ
