#HouseofDarkShadows by #RobertLiparulo is a Portal Fantasy Horror about a family that moves to a strange Queen Victorian House, situated at the end of a road, back in the woods. Read nicely by #JoshuaSwanson on audio. Thank you #ThomasNelson #ZondervanAudio & #NetGalley for the e-audio ALC. #BookSky

#ArchiveDay and I'm gutted to find that in Feb 1953, #ThomasNelson turned down the offer of a book on the history of Clan #Macauley. How COULD they?!
September 5, 2025 at 11:17 AM
#Archives These #ThomasNelson editors are so friendly. Mr Wilson wishes his boss 'good weather and rising trout' for his forthcoming holiday.
In other news, I may also have identified the author I was looking for ...

Possibly useless information, but I have to share!
@qmueresearch.bsky.social if anyone at QMU is researching your ancestor, Edinburgh College of of Domestic Science, then I can advise them that there was a bunch of correspondence with publisher #ThomasNelson in 1933 about a book they were producing.

Gutted to learn that #ThomasNelson declined an author's BATCHELOR'S COOKERY BOOK, which even addressed the Choice of Batchelor Stoves & Cooking Equipment.
Hope she managed to publish it elsewhere!

I'm sifting through piles of papers in search of pertinent snippetsc, which I haven't found yet today!

Ooh, ooh, a letter to #ThomasNelson from Arthur Ransome!
This sadly falls into the category of 'interesting but irrelevant.' This batch of papers contains quite a bit of this category :(

#ArchivesDay - I'm not finding anything relevant. But here's a letter anyone would like to receive!
#ThomasNelson writes to a Swiss professor, 'Your letter [..] came as a shining light on a dark night. It gave me infinite pleasure [..] I am eager to see anything which you may have written.'😍

I suppose this is good. I've been checking to see if a particular authority has written about publisher #ThomasNelson. Googlebooks came up with one answer. It was a false match - I had named the authority, and Thomas Nelson, on the same page in my own book!
I'd better write some more ...

#ArchiveDay. Phew! A couple of hours of intense concentration in the education editorial department of #ThomasNelson witnessing the birth of a new school music publication back in 1936. Now I've seen it through, I think I deserve lunch. I'm sure the author and editor would agree.

#ArchivesDay. Relieved I am, to learn that #ThomasNelson rejected a reading scheme which the author called, 'Backward English Course'. I can hardly imagine a pupil or parent opening such a title with anything but horror! Even in 1953.

#ArchivesDay. The musicologist has stumbled into an unmusical side alley! Lots of rejection letters in this batch of #ThomasNelson correspondence, but I smiled at this letter, about some illustrations:- 'The horses are not all that we could wish. Perhaps you have no good models.'

#ArchivesDay. I'm leafing through reams of book submission lists flying between #ThomasNelson branches in London and Edinburgh. A bit worried by a children's book title which I first read as 'Stories in Bed', but turned out to be 'Stones in Bed.' Which is troubling ...

#ArchivesDay. One of our #ThomasNelson London editors is liaising with the Edinburgh office. Flattering the Scottish printers, he says an author 'has apparently had bitter experiences with other publishers and printers, but they were probably English!' A cunning move to get the printers on side.
