One of the most aggravating throughlines of life in general: if you work really hard at something, you'll be rewarded by having to work harder

This conversation with Ammiel Alcalay was really rich, pulling some threads and throughlines from the eve of the Oslo Accords to today beyond the obvious ones people often talk about. Looking forward to digging into more if these archival episodes as we grow the podcast.

If these people haven't seen "You Can See Everything" I think they shouldn't be allowed. One of it's throughlines is exactly this -- the infantilization of a woman where she's never to blame.

I suspect Stevens' fiance is a huge jerk and nasty to be around. She's a house rep, she owns her actions.

Interesting that it was partially designed/written by Amy Hennig, who would go on to direct Uncharted 1-3. Any throughlines to the Uncharted series?

Thomas P.M. Barnett’s Global Throughlines - Trump not likely to achieve political ends through military means - which is unsurprising. Also Tom needs a little less stark photo.

Right, yeah, the thing is that approximately everything in fandom space also has weird psychosexual throughlines, and most of them are a lot weirder and more sexual than this.

I've been going down one of my YouTube rabbit holes into psychology, this time focusing on toxic behaviour, and one of the throughlines I see in particular about men in relationships is how often they justify abusive behaviour as an excuse to protect their ego and reinforce their sense of self.

OK SO. There are running throughlines of examining gender and gender roles in a lot of his work. Three key works for this imo are the original Madoka Magica, Gargantia, and Kamen Rider Gaim. In all three of these, gendered social roles get dissected and critiqued. He has a particular fascination w/

I'm not eloquent enough for this at the moment but that's so crazy. like jojolion has such good as thematic throughlines. wonder of u is literally a song about the singer's love and reverence for their mother. it's like one of the most diegetic stands. argh.

These are a delight and I especially appreciate that one of the visual throughlines is "make it really gay".

and then outside of furry - i think it is weird to see certain cultural throughlines become no longer relevant to the current moment, and then not understanding what's coming next to shape the future (at least in the good way - i can see TONS of not good cultural trends that freak me out)

Every other day folks get on here with some fucking Union vs Rebel topic like we not all fucking Black and don’t share some of the same cultural throughlines. These BITCHES (gender neutral) are exhausting with that shit.

its so far away from how i play music now , my voice is different, i dont even sing anymore, i wouldn't write about these things , it doesnt feel like a thing that represents me at all , but when i am feeling charitable towards it i can see so many throughlines to the present

Honestly I just love learning about why certain commonly used items or tech are set up the way they are. Since it can lead to you discovering fascinating throughlines or histories, or even discovering modern applications of seemingly old tech.

I think a lot of them can read and probably read a lot of really great stuff, but this style of humor/writing is… aggressively not for them. Which is fine!

I do wonder if you’re right that the RPO comparisons go no deeper than “video games,” though. Can’t really think of many other throughlines!

Ended up as my favorite of the 4, which was surprising after I REALLY enjoyed Theodora's.

The strong thematic throughlines of love changing people and the meaning of humanity combined w. the recontextualization of 3H's overarching worldbuilding really sold me.

Yaoigem indeed.

Right? There were throughlines that followed. The Nina Corey case (which I mentioned in a follow-up) was a big one. This and Twin Peaks might be the keys to modern TV.

We haven't come close to grappling with the 250th's questions about who "we" are and how "we" got here. I write about one aspect of this in Finding Throughlines this week:
