#TimeTrax
Okay, let’s fire up this MegaDrive then… Seems to work with the original Timetrax prototype rom…

No, you’re reverse engineering the music driver you wrote 30 years ago whilst listening to it play Tim Follin’s title track banger for TimeTrax.

Me: "Hey Tim, have you done me that in-game tune for Timetrax, that science fiction show about a time-travelling cop?"

Tim: "Sure did, real folky like you asked for"

I suppose I could look for it in the Timetrax prototype ROM.

Anyway I'm all "Timetrax" this, and "Timetrax" that, but what the heck is or was Timetrax. Well, it was a TV show from the early 1990s that was okay in an extremely derivative kind of way. I think it lasted a couple of seasons. Malibu Interactive were doing a platformer based on it.

Further proof that not enough people watched TimeTrax: None of the AI models are named SELMA.

Also quite like the way you can decompose tunes by switching channels in and out. The Timetrax music just uses the YM chip. I should decompile the source code for the driver at some point from the preserved binary...

I wrote the music driver for this. The drivers usually have an ADSR function that can affect pitch and volume. Tim asked me whether I "could do ADSR on everything". So this driver, if memory serves, could do ADSR on the sound chip FM operators.

I've got a ROM that contains the binary, the excellent Timetrax demo that was never released. So have reversed engineered the 68K code to find out where the Z80 music driver code is. And am attempting to deassemble code I wrote 30-odd years ago. I may be a while.

This is the code that loads the Z80 code from the 68000 CPU into the MegaDrive's Z80 8K RAM space. For the time being, I'm just going to load the blob from Timetrax in - I've not finished decompiling that yet.

The only copy I have of it now is in the ROM prototype of TimeTrax, hence this effort.

You probably did. I think you, Neale Sutton and Mark Wilson contributed graphics for that. Neale also worked on Prime. Not sure who was on TimeTrax graphics. A good team all round. Shame it didn’t work out.

#TheOuterLimits TV ep #7.08 "Blank Slate" (02-Apr-99).
Well if it ain't Dale Midkiff from my #TimeTrax walkthrough! He's never gonna be my favourite actor but he did a good job here of a man getting his memory back in increments.
Good ep but was the most Vancouvery looking ep ever, yet wasn't dull!

I heard from one of the management at Malibu that Sega were interested in licensing the driver from them after hearing the Timetrax music. However they couldn't get their head around the workflow. Coding the music in assembler is so Follin...
