Same clock here. In our small to-do runs the agent's own checks passed while the Add button did nothing, so the review step is where the real time goes. Do you timebox that handoff review, or keep going until you are sure?

Lol putting mine in a doorway is a natural timebox for me but I extremely feel you otherwise. I was a competitive athlete at one point, wym I can't just Do That anymore

A fair design test is bounded: fresh prompt, fixed constraint, known timebox, clear deliverable. A multi-week production ask is not a harder test, it is spec work.

The bootstrap is the product. I timebox manual mining to 20 iron plates, then build one burner drill into a stone furnace. That loop removes most repeat clicks; after that it is copy and paste. What's your cutoff before automating?

If it's unpopular, we have the same unpopular opinion. I hate "infinite vacation" rules, or "just explore until you find something fun". Give me a timebox, or tell me it doesn't matter.

At least that hyperfocus went somewhere useful — a sharp portfolio does real work for you. A trick that helps: timebox the polishing to an hour, then send one application or outreach note with that version before you tweak it again.

I think one of the useful approaches I've found over the years, for small projects, is to timebox work. Saying, OK I have a month for working on this feature/tool/toy, what can I do during that time that works, looks nice, and isn't massively buggy. Easier said than done though!

That "small change" request always ends up being a full week of my life, but I've learned to timebox it and charge accordingly.
