Over the course of our response to Tropical Cyclone Gezani, which hit Madagascar in February, WCK teams served hundreds of thousands of meals with over a dozen local restaurant partners. Most importantly, the community around Toamasina came together to support one another. #ChefsForMadagascar ⬇️

Tropical Cyclone Gezani left the village of Ampagarinantelo—separated from Toamasina by the Ivoloina River—completely isolated. To reach the community, WCK set up a mobile distribution site accessible by small boat. (1/2)

Out of 160 species in the cuckoos, about 40% use some form of brood parasitism.
Those that don't develop defenses AGAINST IT.
The couas are the good parents, the Madagascar Cuckoo (Cuculus rochii, shown) is the local brood parasite they have to defend against.

Last night, a large fire destroyed Bazary Kely, the largest public market in Toamasina (Madagascar’s second largest city).
Again, no injuries have been reported, but physical and financial damage are severe.

WCK’s #ChefsForMadagascar teams are working with local partners and volunteers to support communities in Toamasina impacted by Tropical Cyclone Gezani. Many of these volunteers were part of our previous response in Madagascar in 2022, and they did not hesitate to support their neighbors again.
