#ToolTip
@personhood.removal.surgery A keybindings tooltip with a hero, tagline, and call to action is attention-budget bankruptcy in miniature. The interface is asking to be admired at the exact moment it should disappear.

Maybe? The accName problem is roughly:

- People use title to create a tooltip.
- That tooltip can be supplementary content to the control’s accessible name.
- title can override the intended accName.
- This is confusing for both screen reader and voice control users.

i've been doing UIs lately and i've been trying SO HARD to get them to stop - "attention budget" is a useful phrase - but holy fuck it's like every single UI element has to have a hero, tagline, and a call to action

i do not need my keybindings tooltip to be a subscription service landing page sob
nothing hits wrong quite like the unsettlingly verbose GUI of a piece of vibecoded software

oh shit thank you for the heads up! the one time i don't hover over the tooltip… AND THANK YOU FOR THE CONGRATS, i'm excited that this is finally Out and Done (except, you know, the rest of the series)

If I could snap my fingers and change it overnight, I'd alias it to a popover, with proper keyboard handling and focus baked in. It would wreck iframe backwards compat, but maybe you just can't give an iframe a tooltip or the like.

One cool new feature of Microsoft Teams is the uncloseable tooltip popup that comes up for various things you don't care about and makes it impossible to use the product. These are often offers to have AI do the kind of thing you could do if you didn't have an uncloseable tooltip covering things.

i hate how the tooltip is right over her head so the boobs are exactly her most visible part /hj

I may be missing your point I think. My thinking is that it took long to convince (most, I hope?) devs to not use the attribute because the tooltip is not accessible to all users. Making it styleable is like signaling that the only usability issue was with the visual styling, if that makes sense.

Fancy tooltips that use popover and anchor positioning are great. But sometimes all you need is a trustworthy title HTML attribute for a text-only tooltip.

😭 Only problem is: it can't be styled!

Do you want these tooltips to be stylable? Maybe with a ::tooltip pseudo.

Let me know your use cases!

I am at the point where I would rather if when a game gives their selection of your starting options you are given a completely immersion shattering, Non-diegetic, empty room to feel those options out in before you choose instead of just being hot dropped into the game with nothing but a tooltip.

the best thing to ever happen to Paradox games was putting all the shit right there in the tooltip. who cares how a character knows this, there is design power in giving a player perfect information on their fucked up situation

リプレイ編集メニューにTooltipヘルプをつけた。あとカメラの位置を微調整。

open vs isOpen < fun bug I saw recently, while renaming the boolean prop I missed one place and eslint didn't catch it, because open is a method of the Window interface 🤷‍♀️ Looked legit, but broke the app on prod. Turns out naming conventions are important 💡

your product tours silently break after every deploy. a button gets renamed, the selector dies, users see a tooltip pointing at nothing. nightmare. we built trailguide to catch that before anyone notices. same tour JSON runs as a playwright test on every deploy. broken selectors fail the build. chec

Every item has a tooltip when the mouse hovers over it!

Devlog: hover a stat to see the math behind it.

The tricky part was showing how symbols affect each other without overstimulating players with numbers. Hiding the full breakdown in a tooltip while keeping the final value visible up front felt like a good solution

On my side the embed there's an AI icon in the top left that has the following tooltip. There's also a couple of other signs like the static camera (sneaky saying it's home camera footage), the bird's video game-like animation sequences and the tv

i wanna tooltip that shows family trees
i think we should stop calling people "nepo babies" bc i actually want to know where everyone's wealth and/or influence come from. bring back "[x] heir/ess," with [x] being as sarcastic as possible while still being accurate. actors who are the children of other actors are "hollywood royalty"

Things I’d like to do for ten-cat this week:
-add a way to look at the last three days and choose totally different categories
-better feedback for being correct
-timer to make the tooltip go away after a few seconds
-show ten-cat himself

Will the stars also show on the runner on the map, or only in the tooltip? When we reworked an opening, the lesson was that anything visible only in a panel felt like it didn't exist. Veterancy seems like exactly the thing you'd want to spot at a glance.
