Toronto Police * @TorontoPolice Replying to @TheBikingLawyer On Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 18:27hrs, police were conducting cyclist stop sign enforcement in the area of Queens Quay West and Little Norway Crescent. The Division had numerous community complaints regarding cyclists failing to obey the posted stop sign at the intersection. Officers observed a male cyclist travelling eastbound on Queens Quay West fail to stop for the clearly marked stop sign. Officers directed the cyclist to stop. The cyclist proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed and shouted a profanity at officers as he passed. A second officer again directed the cyclist to stop; however, the cyclist refused and attempted to flee from police. The cyclist was subsequently arrested and issued three provincial offence notices. 5:56 PM • 01 Jun 26 • 361 Views thebikinglawyer I shudder to think of the every day joes who have now been emboldened by @torontopolice and their declaration of open season on violence against cyclists. We should all be concerned that @torontopolice have now released a statement that implies use of force in this case - tackling a cyclist for not stopping at a stop sign and swearing at the boys - is justifiable. The Supreme Court of Canada says use of force in policing must be reasonable necessary and proportionate, and they were addressing cases of criminality, not rules of the road. Years of not dealing with anti-cyclist bias within TPS, let alone any number of systemic issues plaguing this public service are why we see officers with impunity knock people off their bikes for traffic infractions. We've been raising this since 2021 in High Park. Does @mayoroliviachow have a statement? Lol, they even replied to our video to say this, goofy.
