In 1785, Toypurina joined a rebellion at Mission San Gabriel because her people weren’t going to quietly watch their ceremonies be banned and their land be walked on.
Brilliant. Indigenous. Woman.

We were taught all of that definitely in HS history. They also covered the various native uprisings including Toypurina, Bald Hills, & the Modoc war, including the reasons for them.

Also, whoever tackles Zorro next in a visual medium needs to pay Allende to use her backstory for Diego. Making Toypurina his mother was a brilliant choice, Zorro makes much more sense from that perspective, and I WILL die on this hill.

It was a whirlwind of a performance! With only 3 1/2 hrs notice, I jumped into the role of “Toypurina” and made my Opera San Jose Mainstage Debut. 😱 I can’t thank my colleagues & the crew enough for being so helpful and supportive. Viva team Zorro! ⚔️💃🏻⚔️
