So many hot takes come down to, “I am a member of a group who would benefit from some social tradeoff. And as such, I believe that tradeoff is profoundly moral”

there is a real tradeoff here where a Senator being arrested might result in a Trump appointee being confirmed

I assume the service members out there today realize that the tradeoff for the cost of the parade was probably a million things that could make their professional lives better and safer. What a shitty way to treat the people under your command

You just have to decide that allowing a couple seconds of delay for drivers is an acceptable tradeoff for preventing a whole bunch of deaths and injuries. Very few cities accept this tradeoff

Just finished watching this with my wife. Such a good video! What Hoboken is doing is how we save lives. This is what I want Portland to become.
New for the Nebula subs! You wanna see a U.S. city that actually prioritizes people over cars? Yes, such a thing exists, and how they do it is worth digging into.

Just a reminder that in 2020, Dr. Oz suggested that opening schools during COVID would "only cost us 2-3% in terms of total mortality," and that "any life is a life lost but... that might be a tradeoff some folks would consider."

part of the reason i am growing less favourable to left-populism is because it increasingly incentivizes 'one simple trick to avoid political tradeoff' thinking
It’s like they can’t even comprehend a reality where gas is unavailable

Sacrificing some battery to make the phone stunningly thin... and then probably putting a case on it anyway. The trendy tradeoff nobody asked for 😅

if the tradeoff for “fuck ice and free palestine” being the norm now is fingerwagging on here from people who didn’t hold those positions a year ago i’ll take it

The idea that there's a tradeoff between calculus and statistics betrays a weak understanding of both calculus and statistics
One of the greatest errors in K-12 education, in my opinion, is prioritizing trigonometry and calculus over statistics. Yes, trig and calc are important for many professions. Statistics are important for literacy.

I can only say, at the very least, what a waste of talent. What a way to spit in the face of people who wanted to serve. What a dumbass tradeoff for the military.

In Super Mario Sunshine, the differences between surfing Bloopers are presented as a tradeoff between speed and handling, appearing to not have any clear advantage over each other. However, this is not true, and the green Blooper is actually OBJECTIVELY SUPERIOR to the other two.

Would you rather eliminate the entire internet, or 8% of American golf courses

A real stumper of a tradeoff
Read @andymasley.bsky.social for context

"the water all American data centers will consume onsite in 2030 is equivalent to 8% of the water currently consumed by the US golf industry" or "water usage of 260 square miles of irrigated corn farms, equivalent to 1% of America’s total irrigated corn"

Had it been a possibility and was available, transitioning as a youth would have saved me multiple surgeries and a lot of depression and anxiety throughout my teenage years. That tradeoff is never considered.
