I dunno if it's all of it, but definitely a lot of tradework definitely puts a lot of things into perspective. When you are working with things that will happily destroy you if you do something dumb, the little stuff rolls off quick.

yeah tradework isn't getting replaced by machines any time soon
HVAC, tree cutting, roofing, general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heck even blacktopping
Markup on all of that stuff is ludicrous now compared to what it use to be, because the demand is so damn high and supply of workers so low

Jobwise, first it'll be QA, then Support, then development jobs
It'll make everything WAY worse but the ones running things only care about $$ not quality
Now tradework THAT is profitable and useful right now.

Yes. The conservative politicians and business leaders that routinely denigrate higher ed and uplift blue collar tradework do so TO LOWER their labor costs and reduce competition for their children, who are still going to college (and learning art, music, literature, and languages in k-12 schools).
the other thing is that no one who fetishizes manual labor actually cares to improve life for people who are in those circumstances! no support for unionization or a generous welfare state! no interest in policies that make life easier for people who work their hands or afford them more autonomy!

Why is our focus on "nation building" always just "export natural resources"? Is this our only trick? Why not fed investment in our own manufacturing, tech, or science sectors? Why not use the rare minerals we have to make renewables? Build train and transit networks? We did this in WWII and after.
