My dear friend @liv1317.bsky.social has drafted out an excellent email to send to transformativeworks in regards to this, and I highly recommend others send something similar so that something can be done -

Screenshot of post by goshdanganronpa on Tumblr. Reads, "Every time you think of a fic you wish you could've read or reread or continued reading during the AO3 shutdown, note it somewhere. When the shutdown ends, open that fic and leave a comment saying, "I thought about you during the AO3 shutdown." Even if you've commented before. Let them know they were on your mind."

Just a reminder to contact AO3/transformativeworks instead of the people hosting these sites, by the way. AO3 has responded at least once to others that they're aware of at least some of these sites and are working on taking them down but it's going to take a while due to legal shit.

if you're a writer, you may want to check a website called ao3(dot)life and maybe reach out the legal team of transformativeworks in hope to take it down: www.transformativeworks.org/contact_us/?...

if you're a reader, avoid this kind of website, i beg of you, please show us some respect...

FFS. Anyone who uses Archive of Our Own, don't let your addiction make you make stupid mistakes. And never pay ANYONE charging for shit that's normally free and ain't theirs.

I just remembered this Email exchange back in May that I had with @transformativeworks.org explaining why saving @archiveofourown.org fics to the @archive.org WayBack Machine has been incredibly difficult lately.
I’m hoping this will be resolved when the website is back up.
ArchiveOfOurOwn/TransformativeWorks response: Hello there, Thanks for contacting AO3 Support. Due to various DDoS attacks and abuses on AO3 such as bots spamming out large volumes of password reset emails, we now have multiple rate limits for different actions users can take on AO3. Unfortunately, we know that this causes issues with services like the Wayback Machine, RSS feeds, or embedding programs. These rely on "good" bots, scrapers, or other automated tools, which we have deprioritized in favor of traffic from users. Please feel free to contact us again if you have further questions or comments! Best, PK AO3 Support The message I sent: Every time I decide to save a fic to the WayBack Machine, I always get a message saying “The target server returned a bad gateway error for https://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico. (HTTP status=502)” and I’m worried that a fic I love will get deleted someday.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Diane Marchant’s A Fragment Out Of Time from 1974 and how much can spring from a moment of “fuckit, let’s make the subtext text.” morgandawn.livejournal.com/1451098.html
