"Noe" works in Soledad CA transplanting broccoli. "The machine goes ahead planting and we follow behind the machine replanting where the machine doesn't plant correctly. I am very tired at the end of the day because we walk a lot and the work is done bent over low." #WeFeedYou

Sweet potato seedlings need to be watered as they are planted. A tractor driver hauls a portable water tank alongside the transplanting tractor to refill its water supply. This tight coordination means farm workers can keep planting the seedlings without a pause. #WeFeedYou

I don't understand the meaning of "transplant" the quoted person is gesturing at here. Transplanting is part of the normal work of gardening, and isn't inherently harmful or beneficial in itself. Is there a form of emigration that isn't "transplanting"?

Hermelinda's transplanting tomato seedlings. She earns just over CA min. wage. It's seasonal work & she doesn't live nearby. Gas for 100+ mi round trip is expensive. It's the only option in the slow season as her family depends on her wages. #WeFeedYou

i get that yall are from a big city but this is a catastrophic level of misunderstanding how transplanting works
Yes what @alsorae.bsky.social said.

I would also add, they're moving into more and more spaces that are outside of the areas that transplants traditionally lived in.

Angelina shared this from Madera CA. We were transplanting tomatoes & there was a wind storm. A dust devil formed. It caused a lot of dust and dirt to get into our faces. This is one of many things we - the ones that harvest the food that goes on everyone's table - endure. #WeFeedYou
