You do not need to have specific trauma to justify liking dark fiction. And if you *do* have related trauma, you do not owe that information to anyone on the god damn internet.
I think the fact people have to tell strangers that they were assaulted or put through similar trauma to justify liking a fictional character and to be left alone is really weird,, can you just leave people alone and let them like whoever they want.

I think this is a "two kinds of people" thing. There are people who respond to trauma by reaching out for fellowship & company, to ease the burden. And there are people who respond to trauma by turtling, receding into their own shell to suffer alone. I am a turtle. 🐢

The point about empathy and baring our trauma not being effective in moving legislators really stuck with me. It's true about the tragedies that occur when women are denied abortions, as well as the suffering of trans children denied the healthcare they need.
