Victims need understanding ..where there is disclosure.. respect.. trauma informed...understanding barriers in culture/language... No prejudice.... victim blaming.... minimising...and most of all...trauma informed practice with specialists if required.

It’s absolutely true that victims might need time to process what happened to them before they label it rape. It’s absolutely true that trauma can make it harder to access memories—especially in high-stress settings and in the absence of trauma-informed methods.

A therapist who thinks they're trauma informed "enough," is not trauma informed. *I* am not trauma informed "enough." Being truly trauma informed is being committed to keeping up w/ the research, open to radical shifts in understanding, & consistently deferential to lived experience.

When I took trauma informed training and neurodivergence informed training , I was validated in my thoughts that some people need movement or sensory to regulate.

There's an important bit of journalism ethics here: do your best to minimize harm. This means taking a trauma-informed approach, not rushing the story and shoving survivors into the worst, period, hell, period before they're ready, and it means getting it right the FIRST time, not later

Trauma informed practice doesn't "fixate" therapy on trauma or go "fishing" for trauma in patients' experiences. Trauma informed practice actually keeps the work from inappropriately focusing on trauma when other factors are more central to a patient's difficulties or priorities.
