Every day a 40 foot tree takes in 50 gallons of dissolved nutrients from the soil, raises this mixture to its topmost leaves, converts it into 10lbs of carbohydrates & releases about 60 cubic feet of pure oxygen into the air. #TreesMatter

Sit with me under the big Chinese elms at our house-before-last. They made such good shade and produced much oxygen. They were also the host plant for many batches of Mourning cloak caterpillars. You can hear the parrots, off in the
distance, flying by. #TreesMatter

This grand tree was on one of my dog walk routes.

My trees are the answer sticker. This one finally wore out, but the good people at Davey Tree sent me a new one. #TreesMatter

This one lives not too far from the house I grew up in.

It's a hard thing to accept, but many of our 'native' tree species are not a good fit to the rapidly changing climate

We took a little drive from Littlerock up to Wrightwood, where I stopped to hug this Jeffrey pine. The bark, on a warm day, smells like vanilla. #TreeHugger #TreesMatter

One of the last things I bid farewell to before I left San Diego was this fabulous Ficus tree that was in my neighborhood. I gave it a good hug and thanked it for its great shade. She's a beauty! #TreesMatter.

I used to pass this tree every day on my way to walk Noah. The irrigation was turned off, so I would collect the condensation from our window air conditioner and take it there once a week. In the winter, I brought captured rainwater. I do hope it is still alive.

We went over this evening, to check on the Oak (Quercus virginiana) I helped plant for Arbor Day this past spring. She looks good despite the sweltering last couple of months. Lots of new growth! #TreesMatter

One of my favorite trees lives in the middle of an eight lane interstate, in eastern san diego county. East county used to be farmland, from about the late 1850s through about 1950. Not saying this tree is that old, but I do love it, because #TreesMatter.

Two years ago, I took one last trip to visit the group of Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) that live on Sports Arena Boulevard in San Diego. They are incredibly beautiful. There's rumours that they will be sacrificed for new development.

They chopped down these beautiful mature trees, and about 25 more, when they tore down the old police station and built an InAndOut burger place. I spoke with the mayor and developer. Neither would be of any help in saving the trees by designing around them. It was heartbreaking. #TreesMatter

Some of the big Silk oaks (Grevillea robusta- not a true oak) at Lindo Lake Park. They can reach heights of 50 feet. When they are blooming, and you are on a high spot in San diego County, they are big blobs of orange yellow. Non-native, but drought tolerant and, just so big! #TreesMatter

I remember exactly where this is and how thankful I was for the great shade this tree provided me and the dogs on an extraordinarily warm day. I was on a walk with Noah and Axel. #TreesMatter #Dogwalker

There were three big Chinese elms at our house-before-last. Lots of Monarch butterflies took shelter in them, and they made very good shade. #TreesMatter

There are a lot of magnificent, old trees in downtown Sacramento. I loved how they adjusted the size/path of the sidewalk to accomodate this big one. #TreesMatter

This beautiful conifer sits alone on a large vacant lot in Hemet. I used to stop and hug it when we visited Diamond Valley Lake or grandma at her assisted living place. #TreeHugger #TreesMatter
