I instantly prefer the Trelane angle!
For me, I would I have had the cause of the puppet episode to be Trelane. I think Space God magic just makes the whole thing work better and easier to accept, plus he lends himself to the tone of the episode. I would have had Little Ricky be the villian in a Khan/Joker like character causing chaos.
