wow it was XENOPUS??? the Drosophila of frogs? What next, a genetics researcher smuggling in Tribolium??
The Justice Department has now filed criminal charges against Harvard scientist Kseniia Petrova for “allegedly attempting to smuggle clawed frog embryos and embryonic samples into the United States.”

🪲🪰 Our preprint is out! This was a team effort with @wolframponisch.bsky.social, @matthewabenton.bsky.social and Ewa Paluch.

We asked whether Drosophila and Tribolium use the same cell behaviours to fold their embryos during gastrulation.

Final thought: development is not one fixed script. Evolution finds different mechanical solutions to the same morphogenetic problem. Or, more simply: when things get crowded, the beetle finds another dimension. 🪲
