Wikipedia entry for Trimont, Minn. Trimont is a city in Martin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 705 at the 2020 census. The small community is located in southern Minnesota between Sherburn and St. James on Minnesota State Highway 4. History Trimont was once two separate villages, platted by competing railroads. The two towns were Triumph to the east, and Monterey to the west. In a 1959 referendum, the two towns voted to merge, using the first letters from each town's name to form, originally "Tri-Mont"', and later simplified to "Trimont". As a result of the merger, Trimont has the unique characteristic of two separate Main Street business districts which are on the same street, yet located approximately a half-mile apart. Chaffinch had been a US fishing trawler built in 1928 as MV Trimont. She was considerably smaller and lighter than the Pentland Firth, but she had a heart (and hull) of steel.

I held a farmers roundtable in Trimont today to hear about problems that our farm families and rural communities are facing. In addition to challenges with high input costs and high taxes, I heard a lot of concerns about power lines that are being proposed across southern Minnesota.

TRIMONT, Minn. - Two tiny villages, separated only by a highway and 58 years of rivalry, will become one on Jan. 1. The twin towns of Triumph (population 56l) an d Monterey (315) long have shared the same Main street. their business districts just five blocks apart. They often have scowled at one another across their 3,000 feet of common boundary along highway 4, about 19 miles north of the Iowa state line and 15 miles northwest of Fairmont. But on New Year's day they will share, for the first time, a common name: Trimont. Google Maps showing current view of the two business districts Triumph was the home to the Progress, the local newspaper, in the early years. Monterey also had a newspaper called the Memorandum. The two newspapers were often at odds, and the Memorandum eventually ended closed. By 1906, the Monterey News came into existence and later the Cedar Gleanings, both of which also eventually closed. Ultimately, the Progress then became the newspaper of all of Trimont.
