It’s worth recalling how marginal the Trads are. They account for about 5-7 votes, liberally. Burke, Sarah, Müller, Erdö, Eijk, Ranjith. Anyone else? At all?

(Right now I think Francis's most likely chosen successor (Matteo Zuppi) is a leading candidate but would have a lot of opposition, unfortunately. I think we'd be looking at Pietro Parolin, Péter Erdö, or Peter Turkson, with an outside chance of Robert Sarah, which would be a disaster.)

After that you've basically got Erdö (conservative hardliner), Grech (awfully young), or if they decide to go for the "first modern pope from Africa", Turkson (although he's tainted by a financial scandal) or Robert Sarah, who would be truly a disaster.

wasnt very interested in the papacy and who gets to be the new pope bc its all mostly the same kind of guy, but white catholics getting real uppity about even the concept of a non-white pope is annoying enough for me to hope tagle or turkson get it
