I've lived under and around Mt. Diablo my entire life.
The shape means so much to me.
It's also a sacred Native site. The Miwok say it's the point of creation. The Ohlone call it Tuyshtak. "At the dawn of time." I like that one.

Disconnected a bit today to go for a nature bath on Shell Ridge on Tuyshtak. Remember to take care of y’selves m’kay?

I saw the smoke on my way to work.
I've been living around Tuyshtak my entire life.
I used to wake up and stare at that shape every day when I was a boy. Fire cant kill Tuyshtak.

This is a pic I took of the endangered Mount Diablo manzanita, Arctostaphylos auriculata, one of the Californian endemic species found only on and immediately around Mount Diablo (a place called Tuyshtak in Northern Ohlone).

Hundreds of years ago land grabbers were jumped and the fear of that event gave us the name Mount Diablo

I'm in the foothills of Tuyshtak because if I can't change the name I can live in a way that hurts less.

Except on really hot days Tuyshtak (Mt. Diablo) is hidden by fog.

These are views of Tuyshtak, or “dawn of time" as the local native tribes called it.
It’s also known as Mt. Diablo, the name given by the Spanish which means in the thicket of the devil.
The mountain is said to be the home of those before the creator gods

The acknowledgment of tushtak/tuyshtak as the main name originally given to Mt Diablo has increased, but I don’t know of any indigenous requests to officially rename. As a white person and an uninvited guest, I’ll use that name officially on their word with their blessing.
