My sister at UCSF.

She’s the brains of the family.

I'm excited to announce that I'll be starting a lab at UCSF in the @ihgatucsf.bsky.social and @ucsf-epibiostat.bsky.social in July.

We'll work at the intersection of statistical genetics, population genetics, and machine learning.

If you are an American scientist and ESPECIALLY if you work at UCSF, you should be doing everything you can to hold Vinay Prasad accountable for the damage he did to American public health.

No, UCSF, do NOT hire him back.
One thing I will be following up on:

Will UCSF welcome him back now after his clear embrace of anti-vax bullshit and brief tenure in the most openly hostile anti-science administration in modern history?

Doctors & researchers close to UCSF are circulating a petition to block Vinay Prasad's return to the university. They cite:
-suppression of scientific findings
-allegations of abuse
-harmful rhetoric attacking public health
-conflicts of interest

Real consequences to Trump.

Dr. Marc Ruel, one of the world's top heart surgeons, was set to move from Ottawa to San Francisco this year.

He backed out because of the political situation here and the mistreatment of Canada by Trump through tariffs and annexation

UCSF owns part of this absolute failure.
UCSF could have removed Prasad from their faculty many times but would not
Looks like being a competent FDA official is a little bit harder than being a professional podcaster.

I wonder if Prasad’s colleagues at UCSF are politely asking him to explain this.

I would.
“According to the FDA email from Prasad…they determined 10 children died "after and because of" the COVID vaccine. But Prasad said the true number was likely higher”.

What the report ACTUALLY said:

“No cases [of pediatric deaths] were classified as certain in relation to COVID-19 vaccination”.

I hereby nominate UCSF professor Susan Kegeles for the first Presidential Medal of Freedom when the AOC administration takes office in 2029

This should cost him his tenure at UCSF, no?
In a document dated June 23, 2023, Prasad, who is described as a social media star, claims to have served as a “Member” of “U.S. President’s Cancer Panel” between 2016 and 2017.

A simple web search shows that, in fact, Prasad was never a member of the President’s Cancer Panel.

UCSF probably should be initiating a scientific misconduct investigation.

The Surgeon General report "Eliminating Tobacco-Related Disease and Death: Addressing Disparities (2024)" has disappeared from the CDC website. Luckily, UCSF archived it on its website.

Today is also a Go Help Colleagues At UCSF day, so it’s also a weird one. I look forward to seeing what new toys/buildings a billionaire has foisted on them this time.

UCSF hosted its first food pantry event for postdocs today, where a local food bank gives free food to UCSF employees.

This picture represents about half the line that had formed 10 minutes before the market had opened.

What the fuck are we doing here guys?

If there’s a Nazi at UCSF and there are 10 people talking to him then you’ve got a University with 11 Nazis
Perhaps an early (bad) sign of what is to come:

Vinay Prasad, who helped lead a campaign against lifesaving mRNA vaccines at FDA, is being welcomed back to the University of California San Francisco, where he was prior to joining the Trump administration.
