I don't know the history and lore, but I've wondered about this because I am far from an expert or even a consistent follower of AI developments, but I took the AI and ML course on Udacity when they launched in 2011 and LLM's were certainly not what I thought AI would look like.

I just watched a @udacity video about building AI Agents. It started with the presenter admitting they knew nothing about product development, couldn't tell us what the acronym PRD stood for, and then presented a really awful PRD as an essential first step in the work.

100% 2013 MOOC energy. Coursea, Udacity OpenAI, whatever…They see universities as the use case to jump start their market making. They like the scale of higher ed but they know absolutely nothing about education. They don’t believe expertise matters either so the will never learn.

It's complicated bc *within the context of a study* it IS useful sometimes to be like, X% of the sample did y, of course it is.
But the *way* it's used to prop up industry-level sweeping claims is the worst part. It's hard to get this distinction across to people who don't care about methods
