She called NI "the UK" in the same breath

It's very fucking clear the UK government has never seen NI as British, they never think about NI and they give no fucks about NI.

Just give us fucking back to Ireland ffs.

According to the scumbag Times owned by the scumbag Rupert Murdoch the UK needs to be 'weaned off the State Pension', which is actually more than paid for by NI contributions.

What the UK really needs to be weaned off is Rupert Murdoch.

Get this evil fucker and his disgusting rags out of the UK.

My husband has been employed since he arrived in the UK, paying UK taxes & NI, but until he got permanent residency he had to pay extra to use the NHS. New applicants will have to pay extra to use the NHS for 10 yrs despite paying UK tax & NI. How dare Starmer say they're damaging the UK.

Regressive National Insurance (NI).

UK employees pay 8% NI on incomes between £12,570 & £50,270.

2% above that.

Rich pay a lower proportion of income in NI.

Govt can charge higher rates in incomes above £100k, £150k, etc. Collect £bns.

No need for austerity. Tax the rich.

I don't want to just dunk on Bryant, who is new in post, but successive UK Govts have been profoundly complacent about the stability of NI even after several summers of rioting. That the Secretary of State is only coming to NI now is jaw dropping.

Again - the reason the Irish government/nationalists in Northern Ireland wanted a reference to the ECHR in the Good Friday Agreement is that the European Court of Human Rights had held the UK accountable for human rights abuses in NI - whereas "domestic UK and common law principles" had not
One does not simply... rewrite the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement.

Just found that post about how it would be a good idea for ‘British’ (those living in NI) people to own more guns.

UK and NI is not America.

Trust me, I won’t be taking questions on this one.

So what's the deal with Northern Ireland and Trump's blanket tariffs?

1. Under the Windsor Framework, the Brexit deal for NI, Northern Ireland is part of the UK customs territory. Goods produced in NI are treated as UK goods. So, NI exports to the US should be treated like any other UK export.

The FWS ruling & the English government's meddling in Scottish law over trans folk being able to change birth cert, the pausing of trans healthcare in Wales and the UK SC ruling's incompatibility with NI law proves trans folk will eventually unite Ireland and lead to Scots/Welsh independence.
Months of work on FWS & the problem of making it fit with NI law alongside @sylviademars.me and @aoifemod.bsky.social is finally ready to see daylight. Short answer, it doesn't fit. Yes, the situation is so serious that it warranted the Mean Girls quote in the title.

Carried interest payments to UK private equity (PE) execs hit £5.4bn.

Execs taxed at capital gains tax rates, lower than income tax rates. They don't pay national insurance (NI).

PE doesn't pay employer NI on execs share of profits.

Tax perks for the super rich.

Just heard Chris Philp on BBC’s Today programme explaining why the Tories want to leave the ECHR. He claimed ECHR isn’t mentioned in Belfast Agreement - which is simply untrue. The UK govt agreed to incorporate it into NI law & give direct access to the courts (Strand 3). Why no BBC fact-check?

NI has the worst waiting lists in the UK but all the Unionists care about is the genitals of children
So Jon Burrows first instruction to Mike Nesbitt was to ensure that anyone from NI was prevented from receiving puberty blockers. We knew from twitter that Burrows was gender critical, having it confirmed that he was directing the health minister regarding this treatment confirms it.
