#UKIPO
I don't know if it's possible but If Furries let me, I'd file the trademark within the UKIPO just so at least one of us own it "legally" for others to use
So apparently some Hollywood reject is trying to trademark the most common word in the fandom: fursona.

This impacts every furry and more importantly fursuit makers because they're trying to trademark it under Class 25 (Clothing / Robes) which includes costumes and subsequently fursuits.

Who said peer-review isn't fun? I just reviewed a paper on AI and copyright that spends a third of the article discussing an entirely inexistent UK copyright case (DeepMind v UKIPO 2023), and that illustrates Naruto v Slater with this image, which was taken a 2021 Prezi student presentation.

DC Comics Goes After Another European Org For Using ‘Wonder’ And ‘Mum’ Together Over Trademark
Several years ago, DC Comics opposed the trademark sought by Unilever for the term "Wonder Mum" with the UKIPO over its trademarks for "Wonder Woman". Now, DC Comics is notoriously draconian when it comes to policing its IP, trademarks included, but this one was fairly ridiculous, as the UKIPO pointed out. There is no actual branding comparison here. No color schemes or tradedress that would point someone to Wonder Woman.

The UK Supreme Court in Emotional Perception AI Ltd v Comptroller General of Patents did something it neglected in Scottish Ministers: it stated what was not before the court.

And look at that, a panel with none of the judges from Scottish Ministers? Well, well, well…

Design lawyers - the survey response deadline is today but this is no April fools day joke! The UKIPO designs consultation suggests major changes to the subject matter that might be protectable as a design. Make sure to respond if you can!
👇Design law folks - don't forget the current UKIPO design survey (deadline 1 April). It looks as if it is mostly about procedure/cost, but right at the end it pops in a *major* question about revising the definition of 'design' in very significant ways!

The problems identified in this case could be mitigated by the UKIPO having a more rigorous registration process and having a less antagonistic means of resolving IP disputes in the first instance.

The current system arguably benefits IP lawyers more than IP owners (especially small ones)

Just to say, not sure where they got that quote: none of the UKIPO decision or the High Court or the Court of Appeal judgments use the word 'drastic'... The Court of Appeal decision is, overall, a pretty dry ruling on the regulations governing use of the term 'milk' www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWC...
