Well done to Jeni Sidwell from my group, who was awarded runner up prize for best long talk at the UKIRSC marine mammal student conference, presenting her PhD work about the transcriptomics of lactation in grey seals 🌍🧪🦭🧬🖥️
Next, Jeni Sidwell discusses how lactating seals move large amounts of energy in the form of high fat milk.

Not one but TWO new papers from ex-UKIRSC committee member Josh! Ok so they’re not technically mammals… but useful insights for top predator foraging 🐧 🐟
Just two weeks after my first chapter was published, the second has come out too! Amazing month for PhD!

Thanks again to my funders and all my amazing supervisors and co-authors, check out the paper on the link below:

UKIRSC wouldn’t be able to exist without our generous sponsors who provide prizes or funding for the conference, so we thought we would shout some out! 🧵 🐬

Great to present again at UKIRSC! This was the first conference I went to in the first year of my PhD, and was a great experience to be on committee for the past two years. Would recommend to any ECR working with marine mammals in the UK!
‘Humpback to the future’! @oshuwilson.bsky.social projects how Southern Ocean humpback whale distributions might shift southward by the end of the century.🐋 #UKIRSC26
