Academic libraries face challenges regarding space for physical collections; they have to prioritise which items remain on open shelves, & which get relegated to stores or deaccessioned. They already use robust criteria for making these decisions; the #UKPBC will add another layer of security.

Being part of the #UKPBC not only secures the future of print collections via retention, it also helps libraries to understand their print collections in comparison to other institutions (benchmarking) and make informed decisions about deaccessioning

The #UKPBC is overseen by a Governing Board, consisting of key representatives from the library communities, including mission groups, and those providing technical and administrative infrastructure, including @jisc.bsky.social and the @britishlibrary.bsky.social

There are 3 levels of #UKPBC membership open to all members that contribute their data to Jisc NBK
- Participating member
- Retaining member
- Preserving member

Whilst the UKPBC is about collection management - it relies on good #metadata
