I'm voting in UQ's Senate election today for the three alumni seats and it's a masterclass in terrible electoral design.

For one it uses the terrible perversion that is the FPTP method of election multiple members in a seat.

Hands off UQ Union!

Student money should be student directed. But UQ’s Transition Plan rips control away from students and their union. Students will be protesting this injustice on August 26th on campus.

The Greens are in solidarity with their fight.

Taking a moment to acknowledge that today marks 50 years since Brisbane/meanjin’s original community radio station @4zzzradio.bsky.social began broadcasting from studios at UQ’s St Lucia campus. Brisbane’s thriving music scene and independent news landscape (and my youth) owe a lot to the Zeds 🖤

QUT's really catching UQ's strays tonight LOL
Shameful. And doesn't bode well for the new Meanjin, let's be honest.
The book's author has described the decision to pulp all 5,000 copies of the book as reckless and disrespectful, and says it "sets a chilling standard".

UQ expert Paul Griffin is quoted, saying sensible stuff about ventilation, but UQ's own inaction on this is a (quite literally criminal) disgrace. But since just about every employer in the country is now ignoring its duty to provide a safe workplace, it's a crime without consequences #Covid
