The sharemarket has traded flat as investors digested the oil price topping the $US90 a barrel mark and a deluge of earnings results from some of the ASX’s largest companies including CSL and BHP. The S&P/ASX 200 Index gained 2.1 points, or less than 0.1 per cent, to 9075.30 as of 1.50pm on Tuesday, with six out of the 11 sectors in the red.

The healthcare sector outperformed, with CSL shares surging over 12% following reports of improved earnings prospects despite a $3.7 billion annual loss. ProMedicus also gained 3% as its revenue and net profit jumped significantly. Analysts noted that while oil price spikes could threaten global energy supply stability, the ASX remained resilient amid mixed sector performance.
