Interesting thread, with video, of the reversed handball call in #USAvsENG.

On the reversed PK decision in the USWNT-England friendly, this seems like a case when the call was made too quickly and actually "stopped a promising attack" (to borrow a phrase from Law 12), as three other USA players were open in the penalty area.

(1/5)
Video still at the 63:34 mark, just as referee blows her whistle and points to the penalty spot. #24 Yazmeen Ryan had control of the ball. #10 Lindsey Horan was open above the penalty spot. On the upper left of the box, #7 Alyssa Thompson was wide open. Also, #6 Lynn Williams was a few yards outside the 6-yard box and clear of her defender, so she could have received the ball as well. Additionally, #16Rose Lavelle was open outside the box, though just behind the referee,

Yazmeen Ryan subbing in at half for Sears. A game changer for Gotham, let’s see if she can do it for the USWNT.

I wouldn’t call it a handball. It hits the trunk of her torso. But her arm is extended…

I am seeing many people shocked by it being scoreless and honestly, after watching Orlando win low score…I’m sort of thinking low score will be the way.

Well, there goes that idea... 🙄

The commentary during the half was that the US needs to get Sears more involved. Obviously, it seems as if Emma Hayes has different ideas. 😒

If Emma Hayes wants to signal the future of the USWNT lineup by subbing out Lindsey Horan at the half and moving Emma Sears back to play at 10, I won't be the slightest bit upset.

Sears is the best option to take over at 10 going forward, and needs some time to grow in the role.
