Every time Trump does this, the NYT & other outlets simply write as if we live in an international vacuum, where the US has no obligations under signed, ratified international treaties. D voters in the US need to pistol-whip their electeds on trade with Canada. "No tariffs for Canada or Mexico outside of USCMA" is a totally straightforward, actionable proposal Congress could implement tomorrow if they wanted.
Again, the lesson for Canada fron the tariffs - but also the EU, the Indo-Pacific and any other region looking to do business with the U.S. - is that the tools have been taken out, this will not end with Trump.
