The Energy and Commerce subcommittee chair opened a markup of six bipartisan telecommunications bills focused on network security, robocalls, AI and broadband mapping, saying the measures aim to secure networks and better target federal broadband resources.

The chair said the Foreign Robocalls Elimination Act would create a task force to recommend stronger traceback efforts and make it harder for untrusted carriers to place traffic on U.S. networks, citing FTC data that most scam robocalls originate abroad.
