most normal UUtah econ professor

(how UUtah managed to to get a fairly left-wing econ department is somethin that i remain fascinated by)
YIMBYs: “we should probably make it easier to build more housing”

Iron concretions (Moqui marbles) from St George area of #Utah. Took these as a grad student, when a fellow student invited me along. It was part of a project related to Martian blueberries (remember those?) and their analogous environments on Earth.

Because the impact to the UUtah alone is going to be something like $48M and to the state, something like $70-$100 Million per year.

As someone who sits on the Academic Senate at my institution, I cannot fathom how we are going to eat those costs. Especially for contracts already in place.

There are so many stories with how IT complicated our life there, I could write a book.

We were early participants in the computational/IT scene at the UUtah, and integral to so many efforts there including the world’s first online textbook.

Something culturally happened there that was not good.

John Warnock has died. He was truly a giant in the tech industry.

I got to meet with him and his wife a couple of times over the years, and snapped this shot of him at the UUtah a few years ago.

My thoughts are with his family.
