#6 plastic (usually a take out container) can be used instead of shrinky dink paper
instead of uv resin you can use mod podge dimensional magic/judikin's diamond glaze
sharpies work as well but don't offer as much opaque coverage as paint pens

I figured out the problem with the 3D printer. The UV light at the bottom has stopped working right- there's light coming out, but either it's not strong enough or not the right wavelength to cure the resin. You'd think this would be an easy fix but can't find a replacement.

Absolutely. Laser cutters and UV printers are generally sold WITH air filtration, and 99% of the time they're in a garage, not a home. HOWEVER, resin printers are broadly sold without any filter or much education about the dangers, so your average person is sticking one in their craft room.

Laser cutters, UV printers, even resin printers –– I don't consider these worth the cost or effort or workshop space for 99.9999% of cosplayers. Most of what you're paying for is mostly time + precision for what... 1-4 projects a year? The pressure to have these tools is overblown.

Replaced the print screen on my 3D printer; now it doesn't print anything. The UV light seems to be working; it lit up when I ran the cleaning cycle to test it. If the screen wasn't working at all I'd expect it to print a solid brick of resin. Gonna take it apart again and check all the wires.

fun fact: Uncured UV resin can make you allergic to your own teeth (assuming you have had some types of dental work), and is FAR more toxic than people have told you previously.

Ououguhh yeah the struggle cuz UV resin really do be looking good...but I also don't wanna invest in a respirator if this ends up being a one-off hobby project, but we'll see! Also THANKYUU

ngl i do think UV resin Looks the best and id love to use it one day but i work in the same room as my bunny so i do not want to risk anything. it should be fine to work with tho if you do invest in a reusable respirator
