Kushner claims there’s a peace deal if only Ukr withdrew from Donbas. Thats not true. Ru wants Ukr withdrawal as the condition to begin peace talks not to end the war. Ru has not agreed to a single thing Ukr wants: NATO membership, peacekeeping troops, reparations, return of kidnapped children, etc.

UKR only recently has started receiving the weapons systems and military capabilities necessary to wage modern large-scale combat operations, and UKR may be able to conduct operationally significant counteroffensives in the future, provided the West reinforces building UKR capabilities at scale. 1/3

Good. NATO needs to be continuously reminded that Ukr won't give up its aspirations. The war will never end unless russia gets a clear message that it has lost the hope/capacity to control Ukr and that Ukr is outside ru's "sphere of influence" and is not going back. Ukraine in NATO is that message.

Good. NATO needs to be continuously reminded that Ukr won't give up its aspirations. The war will never end unless russia gets a clear message that it has lost the hope/capacity to control Ukr and that Ukr is outside ru's "sphere of influence" and is not going back. Ukraine in NATO is that message.

Anyone who says Trump's plan is all Ukr can get and Ukr should take it ignores that Ru has NOT agreed. Pu has "reportedly" agreed. If Ukr were to green light this, Ru will immediately add conditions and pursue Ukr capitulation.

Prisoner exchanges (Ru-US like today or Ru-Ukr like many times before) are NOT “a sign of continuing confidence building”. Stop the wishful thinking. A peace deal isn’t around the corner if only the sides could trust each other. The goals (Ukr loses vs Ukr keeps independence) are incompatible!

None of this is compromise. He’s rephrasing Ru’s original goals. Legitimate security interests is Ukr demilitarization. Rights of Ru in Ukraine is “denazification”. Both aim to end Ukr independence. A defenceless Ukr that’s dictated its domestic policies from Moscow wouldn’t be independent anymore.
Lavrov claims Moscow is open to compromise on Ukraine, if Russia’s “legitimate security interests” and the “rights of Russians in Ukraine” are respected. He insists any deal must also include recognition of Russia’s staged “referendum” results.

Ukraine: Biden lifting restrictions on personnel in UKR & long-range strikes on Russia are not game-changers, especially as the Trump will likely cut support. The most meaningful action Biden can take is to push as many resources as possible before 1/20. Empty stores, send everything, buy UKR time.
