my favorite part of people telling us not to eat ultra processed foods is that it always stops there. no suggestions for how to make this a systemic change, no effort to limit availability of ultra processed foods. it's just "you know the food that's everywhere and affordable? stay away from it."

California will now certify non-ultra-processed food with a new seal, providing clear info on packages.

Washington can talk all they want about "Making America Healthy Again" while food recalls pile up on their watch, but California continues to actually lead the way.

“Ultra processed food” oh okay you mean like water
My favourite thing in the "Ultra-Processed Food" debate is that people always ignore the two foodstuffs that genuinely are ultra-processed (tea and coffee), the existence of which demonstrates how utterly pointless it is as a definition.

the war on "processed" and now "ultra-processed" food is one of the most baffling things to come out of nutrition circles in my lifetime. oat milk is ultra-processed. potato chips aren't by any definition but they get grandfathered in anyway because they're bad for you i guess
The potato chips example is particularly instructive, because potato chips or french fries are among the least processed foods you could eat. Here are the ingredients on a bag of Lay's potato chips - short, and exactly what you'd use in a home kitchen.
