#Ultrarich
A global minimum tax on the ultrarich could change planetary politics. Right now South Africa, Chile, France, and Spain are pushing for it
France could raise around €20 billion per year from this tax

That’s half of the €40B the government is looking for this year

Globally? $302–377 billion could be raised—every year

From the ultra-rich. Who currently pay very little.

The public has supported raising taxes on the ultrarich and corporations for years, but policymakers have failed to act.

This point needs to be made over and again:
The main purpose of wealth taxes should not be to raise revenue. That's a small and secondary benefit. The main purpose should be to *reduce the fortunes of the ultrarich*. Why? Because those fortunes present a massive threat to democracy and public life.

beautifully written, my good man! funny how the ultrarich hate "welfare" but greedily accept public money they don't need.

So when governments say "but the ultrarich might leave the country", we should respond, "mission accomplished then." Get them and their ill-gotten gains out of our politics and out of our hair.
And hopefully, with global measures, out of everyone's.

Like I said: ultrarich megalomaniacs in a circle jerk
Saw this video of Tristan Harris on Diary of a CEO sharing what AI-tech bros have shared regarding their motivations pursuing this technology. It’s horrifying.

These tech ghouls have us all on a suicide mission because of their EGOS. 🫠

not only would this be great for budgets and allow countries to fund more equitable policies, it’s obvious at this point that the existence of the ultrarich is a threat to global security that needs to be addressed by international cooperation

nobody should have enough money to buy countries

eccentric wealthy family dynasties were the backbone of local newspapers and sports teams for a hundred years in this country. were they remotely laudable as humanitarians or community leaders? no. were they better than the bloodless ultrarich freaks in charge now? kinda. what's my point? no idea

Musk paid an effective tax rate of 3.3%. Bezos paid 1%.

How? Taking out tax-free loans against their stock.

I'm introducing the ROBINHOOD Act to tax these loans and generate $276B for universal childcare and programs to restore access to the American Dream.

Billionaires must pay their fair share.
