#UnderTaxing
It depends what you mean by that. If it's the government being afraid of reaching the peak of the so called Laffer curve and undertaxing the rich at the detriment of everyone else, I would prefer they simply spend less (by for example curbing tax deductions to corporations)

Mr Healey, Mr Burnham

We are overtaxing the workers in the country and undertaxing the most wealthy - WHY?

The richest 50 families in the UK possess more wealth than half of the UK population - this is obscene.

Tax those that can afford it - if they threaten to leave let them, we don’t need them

you gotta look at the bigger picture its an upward transfer of capital mediated by a state with a chronic undertaxing problem

Iron says we've over-taxed the high earners, which I don't buy. Beyond a point , perhaps 60% decile, we're undertaxing all the way up.

There's a whole conversation to be had about what money is, hence its function in society, that shapes attitudes and understanding of tax levels.

People shouldn’t shrug this off. Undertaxing record profits is gross mismanagement of fiscal policy for which Trump and Bessent should be impeached. There will be real harmful consequences in the years to come. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/17/b...
Corporate Tax Revenue Falls Even as Profits Soar Under Trump
The annual decline was about $70 billion. Companies are writing off billions in A.I. investments, taking advantage of tax cuts that President Trump signed into law.

[The generation that sold out the future for its present -- undertaxing and overspending. $40 trillion debt figure recently released is $10 trillion more than the entire U.S. 2025 economy]

How Boomers voted the next generation a $40 trillion debt, and counting
Over a 25-year reign spanning the presidency, Congress and the C-suite, the baby boom generation built the largest debt in U.S. history—and left the bill.

We're overtaxing productivity and undertaxing land.

Election spending limits being a radical idea is funny as fuck. The tax base is fucked because you've been undertaxing the rich and corporates you jerks. You cannot do tinuously cut services for 40 years without consequences!

Well he knows he has to lower rates, or god forbid he’ll receive a nickname from the president.

I’m seeing him getting blamed for the high interest payments the Federal Government is currently paying.

It’s not a question of overspending, or undertaxing the richest 50 individuals.

Property taxes pay for the fire department to stop your house from burning down, the ambulance they send to take you to the hospital, the road it drives on, and sometimes the hospital too. Florida has an undertaxing problem. If Republicans cared, the state could pay the localities to do this.

we're also clearly undertaxing massive petrol-guzzling vehicles since people keep insisting on buying the damn things

I agree with you (and in fact learned from you) that we are severely undertaxing commercial properties and that is lost revenue. This includes data centers. I do not believe we should give data centers public incentive and they should be assessed and taxed appropriately.

If the dude could drop $130m as a political favor at the drop of a hat, we are undertaxing him by at least $130m.

Matt Randolph points out the US is the #1 producer of oil and gas, but the #7 recipient of taxes paid by oil companies.

20% of Shell oil's fossil fuel production is in the US. They paid just $16 million in US taxes in 2024. They pay $11 billion globally.

The US is undertaxing big oil.

2/. Alberta does not receive it because (1) we make more money than the national average, and (2) because we have deliberately chosen to underutilize our physical capacity by undertaxing ourselves & our oil & gas industry.

Yep. Overtaxing new homeowners, undertaxing longtime homeowners: it was passed by commercial RE interests on the pretext of helping older people keep their homes. THERE WERE AND ARE much fairer ways to do that.

I believe we are seeing the results of undertaxing multi-millionaires and allowing them to become billionaires.

I am using the expression
Billionaire Mind Virus.

BMV causes an uncontrolled and dangerous expansion of ego, creating super narcissism coupled with megalomania.

Uncharacteristically conventional and wrong-headed thinking from @tom-clark.bsky.social. Why overtax something that leads to economic growth (travel), while undertaxing things that do not (children's clothes). See my chapter in: www.productivity.ac.uk/wp-content/u...

We need to stop being so fkn insular about how we discuss UK taxes.

It does not matter if we have record taxes today. All that tells us is we have been undertaxing ourselves for decades, subsidising govt with oil revenues, selling off state assets, and constantly cutting social security.

#r4today
The UK doesn't need to borrow more, it needs to raise taxes.

Countries with a higher tax take than the UK (38% of GDP) that also had higher GDP growth include:

Greece 40% tax/GDP & 2.2% growth
Denmark 45% & 1.8%
France 44% & 1.2%
Belgium 43% & 1.0%
Netherlands 39% & 1.0%

Your R-star episode peddled the same deficit theories that have been wrong for 40 years. Nobody addressed undertaxing the wealthy which causes huge demand for assets. R-star 8s temporarily up because of the AI bubble.

We have a corporate undertaxing problem.

Undertaxing? What nonsense.
September 16, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Well for starters, attacking the undertaxing of obscenely wealthy corporate captains? Top marginal tax rate was near 90% percent for most of the 20th century until Reagan “reformed” the tax code. Come to think of it, he also “reformed” rules against advertising pharmaceuticals directly to consumers
