ICYMI: Tim Finn Teases Final Split Enz Album: 'I'd Love To Do One Last Record'
Tim Finn Teases Final Split Enz Album: 'I'd Love To Do One Last Record'
When it comes to Split Enz, life has always been full of unexpected surprises. First there was their success, which saw the Auckland-formed outfit not only amass a following for their arty rock compositions in New Zealand and nearby Australia, but also the rest of the world.  There were stunning records, and then there were the reunions, which saw their initial 12-year run extended onwards from time to time, including their most recent return to the live stage in 2026. Now it seems as if Tim Finn has his way, there might be another record in the future. After initially forming in 1972, fans of Split Enz wouldn't release their debut album – Mental Notes – until 1975. After that, however, it was a constant stream of releases, with their ninth album, the fittingly-titled See Ya 'Round, arriving prior to their 1984 farewell. However, Finn had departed Split Enz by the time of See Ya 'Round to focus on a solo career, leaving brother Neil in the driver's seat. Though he'd return for the final tour, and some of his contributions were found on that last record, some fans have always felt an air of unfinished business about the way Split Enz ended their studio relationship. Speaking to The Music ahead of a batch of long-lost collaborations with late Divinyls' frontwoman Chrissy Amphlett arriving, Finn turned his attention to the idea of new material from his famous band. Though he admits there have been "no discussion" about the notion as yet, he's far from writing it off. "[The idea] has come up over the years,” he admits. “And I think we'd all enjoy it.  "I think it would be a timing thing. It would be, like, the time is right and suddenly we all just wanna do it – it was like that with the tour, ‘cause there would be various people who might want to do things at certain times and others don't.  "But I think if we all felt the same way, we'd do it," he continued. "I'd love to do one last record. I think it would be a special one. But, yeah! It would just be when the time is right, if it happens.” Split Enz announced their first shows since 2009 just last year, with a one-off performance at the Electric Avenue festival in New Zealand leading to the Forever Enz tour traversing Australia and their homeland throughout May of this year. Currently, there are no further Split Enz shows on the horizon, though the Noel Crombie-penned book Split Enz: An Adventure In Music And Design arrived just this week.  Perhaps some time in the studio would be the perfect way for the band to celebrate? This is a useful piece from @citizenstewart.bsky.social. It gets at why I'm much more skeptical of (publicly funded) private school choice programs and more open to (curated) public school choice programs.

For 2026 Kavli Prize Laureate Allan H. MacDonald, it looks like a series of fortunate accidents, unexpected connections, persistent curiosity, and a willingness to follow an interesting question wherever it leads.

Thanks! I came down to the shore of the lake and saw a big flock of geese and ducks, and it took a few minutes before I realized there was an ibis there. It was really unexpected.

And a well-run business shouldn't depend on one irreplaceable employee anyway. Pregnancy also gives an employer months of notice, unlike an unexpected illness, so there's plenty of time to plan cover, redistribute work or arrange a replacement.

An unexpected plunge of thousands of feet would have been terrifying—especially without knowing what was happening in the cockpit. And for the crew, dealing simultaneously with an aircraft emergency and a serious cockpit incident is about as extreme a situation as aviation can produce.

We are seeking poems that perform Olympic feats with language that leave the reader in wonder while still referring back to the basic things that make us human. We want powerful imagery and enjoy the juxtaposition of images in interesting and unexpected ways.
