Update: apparently the cables for this specific model are notorious for basically disintegrating; fortunately i heard Unicomp has new old stock replacement M cables; and after exchanging a few emails and about 20 bucks I got my hands on one! Now it’s completely good as new :D

I figured I’d ask here because this is the nerd website and “retro keyboard repair service” is kind of something that has scant reviews online (and I’ve heard mixed things about Unicomp doing it)
As to why i want a service: my hands are not steady enough to replace the plastic rivets

Look into Unicomp. They make USB keyboards that use the original IBM patent for the M series keys. I got this one just last year.

Happy 21st birthday to this Unicomp-made IBM Model M13 3494 Track Pointer Keyboard! 🎂 It can now legally drink in the USA, but since this keyboard and I are in the UK, it's already been doing so for 3 years.

Also found this. A custom Unicomp Model M that seemingly was in use at GE, with a ton of weird keys. Looks super cool. This is so going on the retro desk.

When I started getting “into” mechanical keyboards, the options were buckling spring (IBM/Lexar vintage or Unicomp), weird Japanese imports with cherry mx, or weird Japanese imports with topre switches. I still prefer all of that to RGB gamer stuff.
