Yes, this data is correct. This mean state SST seasonality is mostly due to the movement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone during summer, which is linked to a shift in the tropical circulation that results in an increase in equatorial upwelling in this region (e.g., the cold tongue).

Yes, ocean productivity is not CO2 limited so more CO2 is unlikely to stimulate more. But the changes in upwelling and currents are far more complex

Artificial upwelling could be deployed to prevent El Nino.
But it would require twice as much pipe as there is in all the world's pipelines. @tinymaddie.bsky.social www.newscientist.com/article/2592...

Yes, but

1. Higher dissolved CO2 can also stimulate photosynthesis because CO2 is a required component, and

2. Warming will have very unpredictable effects on ocean currents and nutrient transport (upwelling etc.) and we have no way to really model that. Productivity is mostly nutrient-limited.

Ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) in bottles from northwest Spain's upwelling: 20 days, nutrient-starved water, and the plankton community barely moved. One group of tiny algae fell, a cyanobacterium rose. Same alkalinity, different sea, different answer.

Paola Vivian Vásquez, who is studying the leopard round ray and the starry round ray, asks the question: How do round rays respond to such dramatic environmental change in a tropical upwelling system? She and her team are on a mission to find out.

When the wind blows, tropical round rays seek refuge in shallow, warm waters.
Every dry season, strong trade winds blow from the Caribbean across the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. During this time, warm, tropical surface waters are pushed out and replaced by cold, nutri...

Lumpy Potato Earth changes slowly over time as material in the mantle moves--both for rather fast things like the ice mass loss described in the quoted post and for much, much slower things involving slabs sinking and piling up in the mantle or mantle plumes upwelling.

Rachel has come apart quite a bit since yesterday and this is propably related to upwelling of colder waters as a result of her slow forward motion. In the midst of all of this, Rachel also appears to be undergoing an eyewall replacement. 95 kts may honestly be a tad generous.
