Excited to share highlights from #UrbanTransitions2024, a conference held last week in Sitges, Spain! We analyzed 2012-2018 travel trends in cities within the Barcelona metropolitan region, outside the municipality—revealing unique patterns often missed in studies focused on central cities. (1/2)

I took the train*to* Spain a couple of weeks ago for the #UrbanTransitions2024 conference and many of the people I spoke to found it hard to believe I could set off from Newcastle in the morning and get to Sitges the same day without flying! And these were sustainability experts... 🚄

This tallies with the results of our agent-based modelling of cycling interventions in the UK, showing we need both carrots and sticks to enable mode shift to cycling (and it aligns with empirical results presented at #UrbanTransitions2024 last week from a meta analysis of interventions).
