Askham Bog, on the outskirts of York. Amazing that this ancient peat bog — a biodiversity haven — has survived centuries of urbanisation (thank you Yorkshire Wildlife Trust). Not many birds visible today: siskin and chiffchaff the highlight.

6. They sought to trigger a mass return of people to the countryside, depopulating the cities. I'm not sure they really thought that through: the result would have been generalised urbanisation. Though, given that some of them (esp Anthony Ludovici) wanted to exterminate so many people, maybe not.

“Cars are the most absurd means of transport in a city,” [says Jean-Louis Missika, Paris’s deputy mayor for urbanisation]. “They are parked 95% of the time. It takes two tonnes to move someone who weighs 70kg. And the denser the city, the more absurd it is.”
