American Electric Power (AEP) has recently revealed updates to its executive leadership, signifying a strategic move to bolster the company's legal and technological capabilities. The utility giant, one of the nation’s largest electricity producers and transmission operators, is reshaping its team to support its ambitious growth strategy and substantial $54 billion investment planned from 2025 through 2029. A key addition to the team is Rob Berntsen, who assumes the role of Chief Legal Officer. Berntsen brings a wealth of experience from the energy sector, previously serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at Xcel Energy. His career includes leadership roles at companies like BHE Renewables, MidAmerican Energy Company, MISO, and Vectren Corp., alongside a past position with the Iowa Utilities Commission and service in the U.S. Army JAG Corps. Johannes Eckert has been appointed as the new Chief Information Officer. Eckert joins AEP from Cox Communications, where he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. He possesses extensive leadership experience in IT, covering wireless technology, application development, and network operations, with a notable track record of international involvement. The announcement also acknowledges the departure of a long-standing executive, David, after 14 years of dedication to AEP. This transition underscores the company's commitment to refreshing its leadership and adapting to evolving industry demands. AEP currently provides electricity to 5.6 million customers across 11 states.
