#V:tm
Finally getting around to playing V:tM Swansong. I thought the werewolf encounter in Bloodlines was stressful. It was nothing. Next playthrough he is staying in his box 😭

Someone in the V:tM campaign I joined is literally playing Klaus Nomi and sometimes I don't hate the people I meet in this city.

Playing femme Jimmy Buffet in the V:tM game.

It was honestly kind of astonishing - I was super into V:tM LARP and the transition from Masquerade to Requiem killed so many local games. There's always attrition but it went from thriving to dead where I lived in like a year.

It's so good. I replay it every once in a while. Redemption will always be my favorite V:tM computer game though. It has a very special place in my heart

Із задоволенням пройшов наративну рольову гру про вампірів Nighthawks. З точки зору сюжету, мабуть найкращий приклад по темі з часів V:tM - Bloodlines:

Making notes (both my own ideas and finding online sources for what other people have done) to bring New Orleans up to date for V:tM and it's hard for this elder goth to understand how the official sources have so badly left this city behind.

Despite the game being "not really my thing", I really liked playing Nighthawks, a narrative RPG about vampires. I truly think that purely as a narrative experience, it might have what it takes to stand up to the golden standard that is V:tM - Bloodlines:

I think that it's probably more to do with the role that genre emulation plays in RPGs. Vampires are so big in pop culture that every-one knows how to run a vampire story at least a little bit.

That could be why storygames like Ars Magica that came before V:TM didn't get the traction that it did.

The joke answer is 'so that the characters walk around with guns'. The real one is just... it felt right for the general vibes of exploring vampires in the modern world vs specifically in a set place, which is why the city is weird. (The original V:TM pitch that became Nighthawks was set in London.)

Very lovely to have fellow tabletop reporter @newsnerd.bsky.social on this week's podcast episode to discuss, among other things, the end of Renegade's stewardship of V:TM and whether a Houston-based PAX Unplugged expansion makes sense.

We finished our V:TM campaign on Saturday and I'm delighted and also sad because I'm going to miss our coterie of little idiots!!! At least it ended on a high note (we are now in control of Atlantic City after the Prince was assassinated and we killed the Baron and her faction of Sabbat, long story)

Understandably. V:tM, and of course, H:tR are clearly superior games overall.

And since I went from chess, Overpower, M:tG to V:tM that appealed too.

I believe I'm slightly younger than you but I successfully (accidentally) got V:tM banned from my Jr. High School because "evil" or something.

(Teacher caught wind we were playing it, tried to convince her it was fine, failed. etc)

Most of the people I spent time with weren’t into the D&D scene. Dabbled in V:tM both tabletop and the card game.
October 3, 2026 at 4:10 AM
My man looks like he’s ready to explain why his Vampire campaign is strictly first edition V:tM, with only Sabbat PCs.
October 2, 2026 at 12:48 PM
Anyone else thinking about what they might do with the Sabbat in V:tM 6th edition? Clearly changing it to a war cult that erases clan identity didn't sit well with fans.

Would a new Sabbat reclaim clans? What would that mean without a strong Lasombra presence, now that they've gone Camarilla?

"Okay, so why did you *keep* playing TTRPGs?"

Because I could play girls in them, naturally

And they were a gateway to LARP which was a critical solace and a source of actual friends and acquaintances; I still have friends from V:tM LARP 20+ years later

How much do we privilege the author's intent for the work, vs. the readers' actual play? As writers, probably a lot! (V:tM was intended as a harrowing psycho-spiritual deep dive, I think? It was not always played as such.)
October 1, 2026 at 12:44 PM
I would say that given that V:tM vampires are much more dead than alive that if a pregnant person is embraced they’d definitely miscarry (possible exception if the new vampire is 15th gen)
I really don’t see why a vampire couldn’t have an abortion though! Just might need to use a silver stake instead of mifepristone/ misoprostol

This is not even the worst tie-in novel I've ever read. (You want to see a writer not handle SA and rape well? Go read "Eternal Hearts" for V:TM.) It's nowhere near the worst thing I've ever read. That still belongs to Left Behind.

It’s important to remember about Clan Tremere in V:tM that Thaumaturgy is not the true strength of the clan. It’s the selling point but not the strength. The strength is the pyramid, the heirarchy.
